During the WSC a couple of people in the chat section kept complaining about Shaun White - I kept saying ‘shut up’ because it gets annoying, repetitive and, seriously, lets focus on the truly amazing athletes that were at the WSC.

Some kept bringing up the reason that Shaun White wasn’t at the WSC was because he asked for a lot of money to show up. I thought ‘yea, the trolls are out’ - but then this little news item popped up on my Facebook news feed:

And within that article was this little tidbit:

Shaun was notable by his absence from the recent World Snowboarding Championships (according to Terje it’s because the WSC were unwilling to pay what Shaun was asking to make an appearance) leading some to comment that Iouri Podladtchikov‘s pipe title was irrelevant as the Ginger One wasn’t riding.

First thing I thought was “no way does this make Iouri’s win irrelevant”. Secondly was - fuck me, those trolls weren’t trolls after all, they were telling the truth. Quickly I clicked the link to a video interview with Terje at the X Games in Aspen and sure enough, he lets spill that Shaun White wanted more money than what was going to be awarded as prize money to show up.

Guess what - that makes Shaun White a fucking douche bag.

I have zero respect for him now and, to me, anything he does is irrelevant because he can not do it fairly, equally or honestly.

Take for instant the talk that he bowed of the last Dew Tour stop due to his ankle ‘injury’ but then days later posts an image of him training at Northstar. He has the most fickle ankle ‘injury’ ever.

And why was he training in seclusion at Northstar - because he wants to take part in the Slopestyle at X Games Europe. He chose a time when his main competition would be off competing in events rather than having the time to really train. Yet again, proving that he can not handle equality. He probably doesn’t even know what the word means.

Shaun White is becoming detrimental to the sport of competitive snowboarding.

He does not represent true sportsmanship nor does he represent the soul of snowboarding. He also does not represent the true spirit of competitive snowboarding - not by a long shot.

I truly hate (yes hate) that he is going to the Winter X Games Europe - because he’s not doing it out of the love of snowboarding - he’s doing it out of his pathetic need to always win, to flaunt, to gloat and to act like he’s the best.

I truly believe the only thing Shaun White loves is money … and by demanding that Terje & WSC pay him to show up at an event proves that.
